What is Botox?
Botox and Azzalure are brand names. The active ingredient is Botulinum Toxin. In medicine, it has been used since 1973 for neurological disorders, and since the 1990s to treat wrinkles. Botox blocks the stimulus transmission from nerve to muscle. The muscle comes to rest and so does the skin above it. This fades existing wrinkles and prevents the formation of new ones. After several months, muscle activity fully recovers.

What wrinkles is it suitable for?
Botox is particularly suitable for frown and forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. Lines on the nose and chin can also be treated. Wrinkles are reduced in depth by an average of 90 to 95%. Botox is not suitable for the nasolabial fold and wrinkles on the cheeks. In fact, here the muscle activity is indispensable and we recommend another treatment, for example, filling with Restylane.

Regions
We call the areas to be treated regions. For example, one region is the frown or forehead or crow’s feet. For this purpose, the area around two eyes is considered one region. A brow elevator, the lines on the nose or the corners of the mouth count as half a region, as this requires less Botox.

Treatment
Botox is injected into the muscle with a very small needle. Most people do not find this painful. If necessary, the doctor may apply a numbing cream. After the treatment, which takes about five minutes, the skin may be a little red in reaction to the stinging. This usually disappears within an hour. Very occasionally a small blue spot develops, which disappears within three to five days.

Impact
A few days after the treatment, the Botox begins to work. After two weeks, the effect on the muscle is maximum. This is the time to assess the result of the treatment. You can assess the need for corrective treatment with your doctor during any checkup consultation. Botox works on average about three to six months. You will see your skin becoming smoother and smoother. To maintain the beautiful results, most people need treatment every five months. Deep wrinkles can be treated more frequently in the beginning; every three to four months. Often, after several treatments, the desired effect lasts longer and longer.

Clinique also treats hyperhidrosis (excessive perspiration) with Botox, more information can be found here.
