VPL Hair Removal

VPL is newest, safest means of hair removal around. VPL is both fast and effective.
VPL (Variable Pulsed Light) is the new and improved IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), making it the third generation hair removal method. This method is so accurate, that all of the energy reaches the hair root itself. This prevents the overheating experienced with laser and IPL, sparing the surrounding skin.

Does VPL work on anyone?
VPL operates at a variable wavelength of 610-950 nanometres. These frequencies allow us to treat practically all hair and skin types. Darker skins and lighter hair types tend to need a higher number of treatments.

Is this treatment method permanent?
No method can guarantee that the hair growth will halt indefinitely. This even applies where the word ‘permanent’ is used. The VPL method does produce a very long-lasting result.

How many sessions are needed?
Hair grows in three stages. Only those hairs in the ‘hair growth phase’ (30%) are treatable. Hairs that are still in the transition phase or resting phase will not be receptive to the treatment. For all hair to be treated, we therefore recommend 6 – 8 treatments in total, with a break of 4 – 8 weeks between each.

What results can I expect?
The hair treated will fall out between 1 and 3 weeks after the treatment. That hair will not grow back. Initially, you will, however, see some hair growth; the reason for this is that 30% of the hairs in the area are in the growth phase at any one time. A subsequent treatment is required to target the remaining hairs. The skin can be a little red immediately after treatment. This usually subsides after a day.

Are there any other considerations?
VPL is most effective on untanned skin. We therefore recommend avoiding the sun and sunbeds for the few weeks running up to your treatment. It is also advisable to avoid the sun and certainly saunas for a few days after treatment. It is important that you refrain from waxing, epilation and electrical hair removal between treatments. Shaving and trimming is fine. If you have VPL on your face, it’s best not to wear make-up for a day.
We advise against VPL hair removal in the following cases:

    • Pregnancy
    • Epilepsy
    • Recent sunburn from the sun exposure or sunbeds
    • Inflammation/infection
    • Fever/high temperature
    • Cancer or tumours
    • In areas with permanent make-up or tattoos
    • Use of blood thinners
    • Sensitivity to light or sun allergy
    • Use of Roaccutane in the past 6 months
    • Hypopigmentation
    • Pacemaker
    • Diabetes
